My Impulse/Empulse Purchase! (Pre-Order)
For about a year now I have been following the emerging e-bike industry and anticipating my next purchase to replace my current two-wheeled whip, my Ducati 749. The only problem with that was the current products available could only really supplement my Duc, not replace it. I really need something I could take on the highway and 60+ just wasn’t gonna cut it for me. Then I ran across an article in Engadget, my favorite tech blog, about the new Brammo Empulse.
Perfect… 100 mph/100 mi range, now this is the kind of machine that could replace my 7 year old Duc. The design, awesome… Ducati streetfighter awesome, but for a bankroll less:
Ducati Streetfighter: $14995.00 or $18995.00 for the Streetfighter S
The brammo Empulse starts at $9995.00 for the 60 mi range model, $11995.00 for the 80 mi range model, and $13995.00 for the 100 mi range model.
Thats $1000.00 less for the top of the line Brammo Empulse compared to the base Ducati Streetfighter, assuming Brammo doesn’t put the RR version into production. Add to that, and im speaking from personal experience here, the maintenance costs of the Ducati and the Brammo comes out looking like a pretty solid deal. Keep in mind that we aren’t even taking into account state (I live in Colorado BTW) and federal discounts that are currently available for the Brammo Empulse.
Obviously that was enough to convince me. My pre-order is in but they may as well throw this one on the books because that Empulse is as good as mine. The order number I received was 20100715003 which clearly logs the date the order was taken by year(2010), month(7), day(15), and lastly (possibly) my number in line. So according to this order number I should be the third lucky owner when they start rolling off the production line in 2011. Pre-order your’s here: http://www.brammo.com/store/brammo-empulse

When I read this post my first thought was that perhaps your supposition that the 003 listed in your order number was not necessarily a place in line, but only an indication of you having placed the third order that day. Then I went back and saw that you placed your order on the 15th, which, by all measures available to me, was the first day you could order. So hopefully you are right, because having that low a serial number is at least good for bragging rights. I did read somewhere that Brammo might be waiting until they reach a certain threshold before beginning production (was it 1000?), so I hope a lot more people have signed up since.
